The Lewis and Clark “Indian Nations” map was produced in October 2004. After the first printing of the sepia toned map, sister to the “States map ”, was not acceptable (opps! very expensive) we spent another month and reworked the clearness and readability. Prior to printing, a controversy in the newspapers about the Chinook Indian Tribes on fishing rights and federal recognition brought about my decision to add the Indian Tribes from St. Louis to the Pacific Ocean during the time period of 1804, 5 & 6. This project was completed after months of work and valuable help from Otis Halfmoon, a Nez Perce Indian. This map is framed and matted in ranger green with first day issue stamps and the last three postmarks of Oregon and Washington. Like the states map above it is sealed in lacquers and glassless.

On October 3,2005, prior to Lewis and Clarks' Bicentennial "A Series of Unfortunate Events" occurred.
First, the replica of Fort Clatsop that was built in the 1950's was being destroyed by fire. Second, after an all summer "No Burn" had been lifted, a 911 operators response to an emergency call that evening about a glow in the forest was responded to as "It's Only Fog". And third that after weeks of investigations by federal, state and park officials, a burning fireplace ember was the conclusion
